Buy the Color Lens and Flash Filters at the Photojojo Store!

It was a very gray, overcast day at dog beach today, but luckily I had these in my pocket! A rainbow in my hand and a camera in the other! Time to play and play I did… Read the rest of this entry

Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Kelly Moore Libby Bag in Gray

A large bag is tricky to use without wasting space and this one by Kelly Moore called the Libby utilizes every inch of it. If you find yourself traveling a lot this holiday season and taking lots of photos, then this is the camera bag for you. Read the rest of this entry

Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Rode SVM Stereo Condenser Microphone

I have been experimenting with the video option in my Nikon D5100 and I have found that the major issue I have with it is the audio. Now, the mic on the camera isn’t too shabby (watch my video here where I used just the internal mic). Yet I wanted something more to block the wind and that lead me to purchase the Rode SVM Stereo Condenser Microphone. Their website states it’s ideal for a Nikon D5100, but apparently not mine. Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Nikwax Down Wash

I have saved the best for last in reviewing Nikwax Down Wash! I own a down jacket and vest from The North Face and the sleeping bag in the photo is up for a review lent to me by Mountain Hardwear so I’m going to have to find a way to clean them… Read the rest of this entry

Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Nikwax Sandal Wash

Oh the dog days of summer are over now so it’s time to clean my Teva sandals with Nikwax Sandal Wash. I’ve used them on a pair of Keen sandals too and this works great at not only cleaning but getting rid of any odors. And after living in these during our 100˚F summer weather they need a good wash! Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel

Southern California is mainly desert terrain and I go through phases where I am a desert rat and hike in it every chance I get. So my hiking shoes come back with sand and dust in places I didn’t know existed in my hiking shoes. Also, the tops of my shoes get mysterious stains on them (lol), which I think is from food that I’ve spilled. Anyway, after a few hikes they need a good cleaning and here’s what I use…

Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Nikwax Base Wash & TX Direct

My everyday laundry detergent is Tide and it is the strongest stuff I’ve used, but the drawback to that is I find it tends to thin out my Nike shirts and other athletic clothes. Also, any waterproofing that the clothes originally had is now gone. Yet I can bring it back with these 2 Nikwax products… Read the rest of this entry

Wool Buff and what I hand wash it with

Oh the joys of doing laundry (sarcasm intended), sigh. Well I take care of my hiking clothes and in return they take care of me. For example, in the photo above I’m wearing my wool Buff right before I’m about to board the Catalina Express. BTW, if you want to know how to do Catalina Island in one day, then click here. For everyone else, keep reading… Read the rest of this entry

Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof

I love Merrell’s women’s hiking shoes so much I own 3 different pairs! All of which will last me a life time since I’ve already beat them up and they’re still going strong. Yet I also take care of them. After I am done with a hike I’ll use a shoe brush to clean off the dust and pick out any stones or whatnot with my keys. Then I’ll air them out in the storage compartment on the roof of my Xterra during the ride home. Now that it’s coming close to winter weather it’s time to waterproof them. I’ve tried sprays to do quick waterproofing but since Nikwax sent this to me I’m hooked: Fabric and Leather Proof. Here’s how I cleaned my hiking shoes and waterproofed them: Read the rest of this entry

Outdoors Betty Gear Review: Vapur The Anti-Bottle

.4L (Blue) & .5L (Pink) Vapur Bottles

Let me introduce you (if you haven’t already met) to a different kind of water bottle called Vapur. This company is a green one in that they donate a percentage of their sales to water-related causes because they realize that out of the 200 billion water bottles used world wide only about 12% of them get recycled. Staggering statistic, no? Well here is what’s different about these bottles and some of their nifty features: Read the rest of this entry
