Oak Glen Preserve is perfect to visit now. I know, it’s not apple picking season (that would be fall) and most farms are closed. Yet not everything is closed here and the crowds are all gone. All day I had this place to myself and just a few families. At the parking lot for this trail is Los Rios Ranchos farm where they had slow cooked BBQ for lunch. So of course, I started there instead of the trailhead. Read the rest of this entry

Oak Glen Preserve in the Winter
Bow Down to the Nessy Burger!
I think I just ate a burger that could rival an In-N-Out one! It even has a fun name: The Nessy Burger (yup, as in the Lockness Monster). The ground patty recipe is a secret, but man it was juicy and the tomatoes, lettuce, and onions were fresh! Also, they offer thousand island dressing along with ketchup and mustard on the tables. The fries were good too, but not as good as In-n-Outs. The prices are reasonable and they offer more than just patty burgers so there’s something for everyone.
It’s a perfect place to stop if you’re on the way to San Diego (it’s right before you see the famous bridge off of HWY-76 next to the Mobil gas station in Fallbrook). Now it is a small shack of an eatery and not too much seating available, but this food can be taken to go or just to eat in the comfort of your car. I’m going to make this a must eat place every time I head to San Diego or on my way home, because it’s worth it!
P.S. Watch me at In-N-Out here!
How I Eat Healthy on the Road
It almost sounds impossible to eat healthy when traveling, but here’s how I do it:
- Pack a small cooler of healthy finger foods/snacks like cut up fruits and veggies or pre-made sandwiches. This way you’ll want to eat less when you pull up to that drive through window for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
- Drink water like a fish! There’s nothing better than that for you so pack a lot of it and make it easily accessible.
- Make healthy choices when eating out. In the picture I’m at Jack-in-the-box and I ordered from their “healthy as can be” menu, but I also made my order a small one with no fries! Forget the combo- who needs the fries and soda? You’ll cut massive calories this way and have more energy because the grease won’t be clogging your arteries
