New Travel Videos Coming Up!

Posted on

Hello Travelers! Spent a crazy busy weekend shooting 2 more episodes of California Parks, but these ones are often overlooked unless you’re a local. I’ll be spending a few weeks editing them so in the meantime you can read up on them on a blog post I did on Peter’s Canyon Park and Mormon Rocks Trail. If you’ve been to these places before then share your experience on the California Parks Facebook Page! Can’t wait to hear from you there!

Seeing Old Mission Santa Barbara Through A Telescope

Posted on

Some places are so old that I have a hard time connecting with them. What meaning could I find in a California Mission built in the 1790′s? But I’m a curious person and the lure of experiencing and learning something new got the better of me so I entered Old Mission Santa Barbara with an open but detached point of view. That is, until I turned a corner and saw it, a telescope.

Mormon Rocks Interpretive Trail: A Trail for All Seasons

Posted on

This is my go-to trail when I’m looking for an easy hike with my dog, but with interesting views. I’ve been here many times before and I can’t seem to get tired of the way the lighting can vary depending on the weather. I was just there over the weekend when we were experiencing scattered showers. Luckily for me it didn’t rain once but the lighting was very dramatic.

Christmas Kayak Tour…at Night

On a kayak at Huntington Harbor

Kayaking is something that I didn’t know I would end up enjoying so much. I’ve only done sea kayaking in locations such as Catalina Island, the Channel Islands, and Ensenada, but all of them were memorable! So when my sister asked if I wanted to go on a kayak tour at Sunset Beach to view Christmas lights at night I jumped at the chance! Read the rest of this entry

Huntington Dog Beach in November

Posted on

It’s a gamble to go to the beach in November in California especially today. Rain was predicted and it did drizzle on the drive to Huntington Dog Beach, but I stuck with it and hoped that the rain clouds would clear up at the coast and it did! Now that’s Sunny California for ya! So what’s it like there this time of year anyway? Read the rest of this entry

The Holidays has Arrived at Disneyland!

Disneyland really shows off during the Christmas holiday and they go all out in decorating! It’s my favorite time of year here so if you had to choose only one season to visit, then this would be it hands down. I visited both parks today and here’s a few of my tips to making the most of this time of year: Read the rest of this entry

Astrophotography: The Tycho Project Beginnings

Posted on

Hello Travelers! For the past few months now I’ve been working on what I personally call “The Tycho Project”. As in the astronomer Tycho Brahe who surveyed the night sky and created very accurate maps of it and as a result another astronomer Johannes Kepler was able to utilize- ultimately deriving the laws of planetary motion from that information. My mission isn’t quite as noble nor will add to the laws of the universe, but a little more practical…

4 Hikes to do now in Southern California

Posted on

This afternoon was a perfect time to take a hike. The weather was warm and the lighting great for pictures (as you can see on the left). I took this shot of my sister and dog as they hiked ahead of me on the Big Horn Mine Trail in Wrightwood. It’s an easy hike that took us 1.5 hrs to do round trip, but if you are rushing it then this trail will go much faster. If you’re looking for other great hikes to do now before the weather gets cooler then try these…

Volunteering at the Animal Shelter

Posted on

Just when I think that my day is going down hill I start to think about the animals at my local animal shelter. They give a whole new meaning to “it’s a dogs life”! Haha, actually I would love to join the Peace Corps and travel abroad somewhere to volunteer my time. Yet, my help is also valued close to home and that’s how I ended up volunteering here. Let’s say you can’t afford to travel but you’re looking to get out of the house. Well, volunteering in your community is one option to still get out, meet new people and have new experiences. I’m volunteering my skills as a photographer to this shelter, but if you can’t offer that then you can walk the dogs, bath them, socialize cats by playing with them, etc. So if you have a skill or even if you don’t it’s really your time that is valued when you volunteer and it doesn’t really matter where. Don’t despair if you don’t have any place to go for the holidays or can’t afford to go anywhere. Volunteers are needed everywhere you only have to ask if they need a hand.
